Need a drill, a camera or a tent? Just ToolMe.
Rent what you need from people a few streets away. List what you own and let it earn while it would otherwise sit in a cupboard.
Why rent
Most things we own spend their lives waiting. The drill bought for one shelf. The tent for one trip to Vagamon. The projector for one match night. ToolMe puts them back to work, a few streets from where you live.
Buy it, or borrow it for the day?
Pick a job. We’ll put the shop price next to what it costs on ToolMe.

Six steps from “anyone got a ladder?” to done.
Every rental follows the same path in the app, so both sides always know what happens next and what was agreed.

Search by item or category and choose how far you’re willing to go. Everything you see belongs to a neighbour, not a warehouse.

Request your dates
Pick the days and send a request. Once the owner approves, you have 24 hours to pay through Razorpay. The total shows everything up front: rent, a 10% service fee and a refundable deposit.

Collect with a PIN
Before pickup, the owner photographs the item and gets a one-time 4-digit PIN. You enter it when you collect. That’s the moment your rental starts, with photos you can both point to.

Use it. Chat. Extend.
Booking chat opens as soon as you’ve paid. Need another day? Extend from the app, as long as nobody else has booked those dates.

Return it
The owner checks the item against the pickup photos and a three-point checklist, then confirms. Your deposit refund starts right away. Late returns cost 1.25× the daily rate per day, taken from the deposit.

Rate each other
Owner and renter both leave a review. Neither can see the other’s until both are in, or until 14 days pass, so nobody rates out of spite.

What’s on it
Not just tools. Anything someone owns and someone else needs.
Workshops paint an outline behind every tool so you can see what’s out on loan. Ours works the same way: when something’s rented, its outline waits for it to come back.

Plus anything else that’s sturdy, legal and lendable. If it’s sitting idle on your shelf, it can probably go on ToolMe.
Safety
Renting from a stranger shouldn’t feel like a risk.
Each safeguard below is built into the booking itself. None of it depends on anyone remembering to be careful.
The handover PIN
Before pickup, the owner photographs the item and the app issues a one-time 4-digit PIN. The renter enters it on the spot. If anything is disputed later, the photos and the moment of handover are on record.
Real people only
Every account starts with a phone number and a one-time code. Your number is never shown publicly.
ID through DigiLocker
Verify your identity with DigiLocker, the government’s document wallet. You choose what to share, and a Verified badge appears on your profile.
A deposit that comes back
The owner sets a refundable deposit. It’s held for the rental and refunded when they confirm the return. Late? 1.25× the daily rate per late day comes out of it, and never more than the deposit itself.
Reviews nobody can game
Only the two people in a completed booking can review it. Both reviews stay sealed until both are written, or 14 days pass.
Disputes freeze the booking
If something goes wrong, either side can raise a dispute. The booking freezes while ToolMe support reviews the photos and booking details.
For owners
Your shelf is a shop.
List something in a couple of minutes: a few photos, a daily rate, a deposit and a pickup spot on the map.
- 01You set the daily rate and the deposit.
- 02You approve every request before anything is booked.
- 03Every listing is reviewed before it goes live.
An estimate, not a promise. The 10% service fee is added to the renter’s total, on top of your rate.

Questions, answered.
What is ToolMe?
A rental marketplace for things people already own. Rent a camera, a drill or a tent from someone nearby for a few days, or list your own things and earn when they’re not in use.
Where and when does it launch?
We’re launching in Kochi first, then rolling out across Kerala. People on the waitlist get access before the public launch.
Is it free to use?
Creating an account, browsing and listing are free. When you rent, you pay the owner’s daily rate plus a 10% service fee, and a deposit that’s refunded when you return the item. You see the full breakdown before you pay.
Which languages does the app support?
English, Hindi and Malayalam.
How do I book something?
Pick your dates and send a request. When the owner approves, you have 24 hours to pay and lock in the dates. Then you arrange pickup in the booking chat.
How do I pay?
Payments go through Razorpay inside the app, so you can use UPI, cards or netbanking. You never pay the owner directly.
Can I keep it longer?
Yes, if nobody else has booked those days. Extend from the booking screen and pay for the extra days there.
What happens if I return it late?
Each late day costs 1.25× the daily rate. It’s taken from your deposit when the owner confirms the return, and it can never exceed the deposit.
How do I list something?
Add a few photos, a title, the category, your daily rate, a security deposit and a pickup spot on the map. Our team reviews each listing before it goes live.
Do I have to accept every request?
No. You see each request with the renter’s profile and reviews, and you approve or decline it.
How does handover work?
Before pickup, photograph the item in the app. You’ll get a one-time 4-digit PIN. Share it in person when the renter collects; they enter it to confirm they’ve received it.
What if it comes back damaged?
Check it against the pickup photos and the return checklist. If something’s wrong, raise a dispute instead of completing the rental. The booking freezes and ToolMe support reviews the photos and details.
Who can use ToolMe?
Everyone signs up with a verified phone number. You can also verify your identity through DigiLocker to get a Verified badge on your profile.
Can reviews be faked?
Only the renter and owner of a completed booking can review it, once each. Reviews stay hidden until both are written or 14 days pass.
When do I get my deposit back?
The refund starts as soon as the owner confirms the return, minus any late fee. If the owner raises a dispute instead, the refund waits until support resolves it.
Is my phone number shared?
No. Your number is never shown publicly. You talk to the other person through the booking chat.
